Our Summer Internship is an investment in you and your career. It offers you the opportunity to gain real-world experience, take on real responsibilities, and make a tangible impact. During your time with us, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals, network across the business, and develop valuable skills that will set you up for future success. The IT Division is central to the smooth operation of NFU Mutual. With over £80m in IT change projects managed annually across more than 30 departments and a team of 750 employees, along with 500 third-party offshore staff, our IT function is a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative environment. As an IT intern, you’ll gain first-hand experience working on real operational casework, helping to resolve issues and ensuring IT services run smoothly for customers, staff, agencies, and regional offices. You’ll work on IT change projects, supporting the implementation and rollout of new systems and technologies to enhance business operations. Collaboration will be key, as you will engage with various teams, interact with stakeholders, and understand IT service delivery in action. There will be some structured IT training to enhance your base IT knowledge.

If you’re curious about how technology supports a long‑established, customer‑focused UK insurer and you’re eager to turn your IT knowledge into real experience, this could be the perfect place to start. Any kind of work or extracurricular experience can be valuable — whether you’ve had a part‑time job in retail or hospitality, completed an office-based placement, volunteered, or been involved in a society or team. If you’ve ever solved problems, analysed information, managed competing priorities, communicated clearly, or taken ownership of a task, you’ve already begun developing the skills that matter in this role.

A genuine interest in technology is essential, along with a basic proficiency in Microsoft Office 365. You’ll bring strong interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn, and a proactive, can‑do attitude — all of which will help you make the most of your time in our IT teams You'll also demonstrate the following key skills: Communication, Collaboration and Teamwork: Clear, confident communication helps you share updates, ask the right questions, and explain what you’re working on — essential when collaborating with a variety of I.T areas. Planning & organising: IT environments move quickly, and priorities can shift

You’ll be managing your own diary, balancing shadowing sessions, project work and training. Strong organisational skills help you stay on top of tasks and make the most of your 8‑week placement. Digital literacy: confidence with digital tools helps you learn fast and contribute early You’ll be working with a range of systems, data and platforms, so being comfortable with Microsoft 365 and keen to explore new tools or technologies will support your success Problem solving: you’ll be supporting operational activity and change initiatives Whether analysing an issue, spotting patterns, or finding ways to improve processes, a logical approach to problem solving helps you add real value — even without deep technical experience.

Customer focus: IT plays a crucial role in delivering smooth, reliable services Whether supporting internal colleagues or contributing to system changes, keeping the end user in mind helps ensure the services we provide remain high‑quality, accessible and effective. If you’re motivated, curious about technology and ready for a challenge in a supportive, people‑focused environment where your contribution genuinely makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you! If you successfully complete the internship, you may have the opportunity to be fast-tracked through future graduate programme selection processes, subject to availability and eligibility at the time.
