GAIN Needs Legal Support

Francis McGee

GAIN (Group for Autism Insurance Investment and Neurodiversity) is committed to radically improving the employment prospects of neurodivergent people in the financial services sector.  Owned by the industry and led by the industry, GAIN is founded on the premise that the particular attributes and talents of neurodivergent people closely match the skills that the industry needs more of to compete in the modern, global economy.

GAIN is a small not for profit organisation powered by a very small core team and supported by a larger group of volunteers.

We have identified that we need to add certain legal skills to our team and are therefore searching for a volunteer or volunteers who can help us with the following:

Governance: to establish and maintain best practice governance for our size and type of organisation (we are a Community Interest Company), ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and periodically review our constitution and advise on any options for change (eg establishing a charity or for-profit subsidiary). We already have support on our own employment and HR matters through an outsourced HR provider.

Contractual matters: GAIN is the hub of a growing ecosystem comprising corporate and individual members and expert service providers, who offer specialist products and services relevant to neuroinclusion. We need to improve and standardise the membership agreements we have with corporates, ensure alignment with our policies and practices (eg on data protection) and streamline the process of agreeing terms. We also want to develop an appropriate standard agreement with service provider partners.

Products and services: our stock in trade is to advise members on matters relating to neuroinclusion in the workplace.  To do this we need to ensure our advice, tools, events and guidance are rigorously consistent and in line with legislation and case law.

Intellectual property: We want to properly safeguard the intellectual property we have developed for and with our members for the continued benefit of our industry.

The workload is demand-driven and not always predictable.  We anticipate the average time commitment could be 2-3 hours a week, but it might be higher in the early stages.

GAIN is a remote organisation. The team is home-based and meets virtually. Occasionally we travel to deliver events and meet with members.

Our mission is simple: to spark an industry-owned and industry-led radical improvement in the employment prospects of neurodivergent people in insurance, investment and related areas of financial services.

To help achieve this, we have created a community hub of neurodivergent individuals, corporates, partners and researchers, all working together to create inclusive and diverse workplaces across our industry.

As part of membership packages our individual and corporate members can access this online hub providing a wealth of resources, events and partner offers.
